How Virtual and Augmented Reality are Transforming Retail?

It has been estimated by Goldman Sachs that the AR and VR in retail will be a $1.6 billion business by 2015. Presented below are some of the creative and innovative ways retailers are using these emerging technologies to capture the attention of the customers.

Virtual Encounters

Using AR and VR retailers can build virtual encounters with a concierge who can host the customers and guide them through their shopping journey. The virtual  concierge can also demonstrate key product features and help customers decide on their purchase without having to step out from the comfort of their living rooms. Users can interact with the VR/AR concierge either through a Head Mounted Display (HMD), or using a smartphone they already have.

Sales

AR/VR can help retails sell products effectively. A retailer could develop a mobile AR app that let users visualize how a certain piece of equipment or furniture would fit and look in their house. By developing effective and interactive infomercials retailers can also develop brand loyalty.

Innovation and Creativity

Retails can use AR and VR in the creation of new product experiences to educate the users about the potential benefit of the product over the competition. Traditionally, if someone is looking forward to buy a product, for example a washing machine, they have to rely upon an online video or the word of a salesman to understand the product. Using AR/VR, users will be able to see the product in action and can even interact with them to better understand how the product add value to their lives.

MAGES Studio is a Virtual Reality Studio in Singapore which provides serious game development services and Virtual and Augmented Reality development services and has developed VR and AR apps for retail.
